What’s New: our upcoming fourth surface low-e glass, increased interior glass availability and a new sustainability tool.

Dear Vitro Certified™ Network Member,

As the last quarter of 2023 begins, we’re continuing to pick up speed here at Vitro. As part of your quarterly Vitro Certified™ Network member update, we’re excited to share news about upcoming product launches, expanded availability of in-demand products and a robust new tool that makes glass selection and comparison easier than ever.

In Q4, Vitro will introduce Sungate® ThermL Glass, a new low-e coating engineered for use on the interior surface of a one-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) that dramatically improves U-values when paired with a Solarban® solar control low-e glass on the second surface.

In addition to our upcoming product launch, Vitro has updated its production processes for Pavia® Acid-Etched Glass and Platia® Mirror Glass products that will increase availability of both products across the United States and Canada. Pavia® glass is a translucent architectural glass that is ideal for safeguarding the privacy of interiors, and Platia® mirror glass is a copper-free mirror glass that stands out due to its aesthetic beauty. Both are manufactured in North America and meet national standards for quality and durability while offering a cost-effective solution for specialty glass needs.

Lastly, we’re excited to introduce the Vitro eMissions™ Calculator which is now available at emissionscalc.com. Our newest tool models both energy consumption and operational carbon using DOE 2 & Energy+ data to simulate a full year of typical operation for five common building types: convention centers, offices, educational facilities, hospitals and healthcare, and multi-family residences. Vitro’s eMissions™ Calculator can make calculations using environmental data from 257 cities – 236 in the United States and 32 in Mexico.

I hope you enjoy reading this issue of our newsletter, which examines the pros and cons of gas-filled IGUs. Also included is a feature on the light and bright headquarters of Architects HGW as well as a get-to-know-you story featuring Bill Davis, who is leading the technical services team in solving tomorrow’s challenges with innovative new glass products.

Sincerely,

Project Showcase: Hanna Gabriel Wells Architects

It’s hard to imagine a more dramatic example of reuse and revitalization than the San Diego offices of Architects HGW (Hanna Gabriel Wells). Read Vitro’s case study of the architects’ headquarters, which used Solarban® 70 glass to create an integrated lighting and ventilation system that enhances indoor air quality and bathes more than 90 percent of the workspace in natural light.

Technical Forum: Pros and Cons of Gas-Filled IGUs

To boost the performance of an IGU, architects and designers can choose glass systems that incorporate a noble gas between the panes of glass instead of air. Because these gases like argon or krypton are denser than air, there is less heat transfer through the IGU. Review the pros and cons of choosing a gas-filled IGU in our newly-updated Glass Education Center article.
