Connecting, Expanding and Innovating
Dear Vitro Certified™ Network Member,
In February, the United Nations officially kicked off 2022 as the International Year of Glass (IYOG). With more than 1,100 endorsements from 74 countries, IYOG 2022 is a time for celebrating the essential role that glass plays in society: supporting scientific and technical breakthroughs, serving as a medium for art and aesthetic design and aiding the development of just and sustainable societies.
At Vitro Glass, our vision for glass is always expanding. This year, our research and development team is preparing to launch six new products that challenge what we thought we knew about architectural glass and how it can take our society to new heights, all while keeping sustainability and environmental responsibility at the center of everything we do.
Last year saw the launch of energy-efficient products like Solarban® R77 solar control low-e glass, Solarvolt™ building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) glass lites, and VacuMax™ vacuum insulting glass (VIG). Ahead of our upcoming product announcements, we invite you to take a closer look at Vitro’s commitment to sustainability and how we measure our success. Our recent update to our sustainability web page includes a discussion on embodied carbon: what fabricators should know, how to evaluate embodied carbon content, and what Vitro is doing to reduce it.
We are also celebrating the launch of VitroSphere™, our newest tool that makes it easier to see Vitro glass in action, in a wide range of applications. With just the click of a button, VitroSphere™ presents renderings of Solarban® glass facades of varying color, reflectance and transparency and connects users to relevant product data, literature and other Vitro design tools. Try it yourself and feel free to share it with designers and architects in your network looking for inspiration.
Enjoy the first issue of this year’s newsletter, which explores the relationship between embodied carbon and architectural glass manufacturing, reviews the role of Solarban® glass in creating a high-performance residential tower façade, and helps you get to know Mike Hammond, the man behind some of Vitro’s most significant sustainability efforts.
Sincerely,
Mark Seeton
